The Lake
This is an example of how a restored image evolved simply because of the changes done in the initial restoration.
The original raw version had high contract which give the image a lot of punch but in cleaning the image to bring back the detail that punch was lost. The image of the girl is now vibrant and clear. The 35mm slide had various colour issues corrected as well as dirt and scratches removed. Black levels were maintained without losing the detail. The sky while correct now looks bland because of the enhanced level of detail.
The only solution was to add a new sky to give weight to the image. Careful use was made of a new sky that had punch without losing the feel of the original image. I'm not a purist in the sense I make sure every aspect of the original image must be maintained. Overall a very pleasing result and an example of how restoring an image this old (over 40 years old) can give an old photograph new life.
