The Portrait
This is a portrait that was taken in the 1940's. Because the original shot was taken in mono, most of the background was simply a backdrop which is not obvious in mono but in colour it suddenly stands out. I could have made the background red but i wanted to place the focus on the young boy at the chair.
Like a lot of shots from this time the original negative no longer exists. All I had to work with was a faded print.
The original print took 15 hours to restore, the print was colourised over a period of 2 days. The chair colour was changed twice before I was happy with it.
